The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog- NYC

Our Review By Hero Traveler @sofiamog

First impression? From décor to drinks to service, few bars are as meticulously thought through as The Dead Rabbit, the former world’s best bar that is fast becoming a classic. You can appreciate it on many levels. It’s an Irish bar and the best of its genre, a cocktail bar with some of the tastiest mixed drinks around, or a brand steeped in narratives

What's the crowd like? It is one of the best-kept secrets of business folk working in New York City's Financial District. It also draws a regular crowd of Irish tourists, thanks to the pub's 145 varieties of Irish whiskey.

Drink Review The tri-level bar features a tap room (with a comfortable Irish pub feel and sizable whiskey list) on the ground floor, and a parlor serving cocktails on the second. The top-level is used for private events.

The feeling is the same up and down: easy, inviting and non-pretentious -- which isn't always easy to pull off, especially when drinks cost upwards of $16 a pop.

The cocktails, like the staff, are serious -- but served with a wink.

At Dead Rabbit it's about challenging the status quo of what an Irish bar can and cannot be and bringing it into the 21st century," the 27-year-old McGarry says. The bar—home to the largest Irish whiskey collection in America—creates a new cocktail menu, crafted by beverage director Jillian Vose, every six months.

Should you eat as well?

U.K.-inspired dishes like steak, egg, and chips. Plus, weekly dish specials like the fried fish sandwich, Irish stew, and chicken curry. I don't love Irish food but this stuff is great!

Is it a YAY or NAY? YAY YAY YAY... that's all :)

The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog is located at 30 Water St, New York, NY 10004. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. every day of the week.
