Feed the Fish at Tirta Gangga

Walk on water with hundreds of koi fish beneath yo

There are thousands of temples in Bali and one of the most ornate temples in Bali is the water temple, Tirta Gangga

The water gardens were once a former royal palace and is located in the eastern highlands of Bali in the village of Ababi on the slope of Mount Agung. Giant koi fish circle you as you skip across the water steps like a frog hopping on lily pads. It feels like you’re walking across water as you go from step to step as a magnificent collection of stone sculptures depicting mythical creatures watch on.

Within the complex are not only ponds and statues but also bathing pools. Many visitors to Tirta Gangga end up missing these as they tend to stay towards the front but if you take a wander through tropical gardens you will discover a little known swimming pool that you can swim in for a small fee.

This former royal palace opens at 8am and costs 30,000 IDR per person to enter. Before you enter Tirta Gangga, make sure you buy three bags of fish pellets for 10,000 IDR from one of the vendors outside the front entrance so that you can attract the gaping school of koi fish your way.
