The Under-Rated Hike

Kloof Corner Hike, Cape Town, South AFrica

View at Sunrise from Kloof Corner

Whenever someone plans a trip to Cape Town, they plan at least two hikes: one up Lion’s head and one up Table Mountain. There is, however, a spot that a lot of people don’t even consider hiking up to, and that is the Kloof Corner. The Kloof Corner hike is definitely one Cape Town’s easiest hikes but it also has one of the most beautiful views of the city.

The start of the hike is halfway up Taffelberg road - the one that goes to the cable car station. Ninety percent of the hike is really chilled. It has a minimal gradient and feels more like a stroll along the mountain than a hike. The last 10% requires a little bit of effort, as the gradient increases drastically, but with your eye on the prize (the prize being the view) you barely notice the change. It only takes a short 25 mins to summit.

Once on top, you are met with the most amazing view of the city, as Lion’s Head and the Atlantic Seaboard are laid out before your very eyes. You can sit along the mountain, with your feet dangling daringly off the edge, and just enjoy the moment.

It’s a really nice spot for climbers as well that you can scramble your way up the mountain to reach. I wouldn’t suggest going up too high though as coming down becomes a real problem. Trust me on this one.

It also isn’t known by a lot of people who visit Cape Town, so you’ll never find the top too crowded.

Kloof Corner hike is an amazing spot to go to for both sunrise and a sunset a hike.
