My Favourite Sunrise Spots in Bali

Everybody knows I’m a sucker for a sunrise and being based in Bali there is a plethora of beautiful places and viewpoints to visit & shoot! Two of my all time favourites would have to be the incredible view of Mount Agung from Bukit Cinta & also the Tegalalang rice terraces in Ubud.

Something I have learned from doing sunrise missions frequently is that it’s a very healthy way to start the day because you stimulate your senses so early in the day and leave with a dopamine rush from the incredible sights, in my opinion it’s extremely therapeutic.

How Incredible is this View?! How Incredible is this View?!

Agung has always fascinated me & this has got to be one of my favourite views of the gentle giant. I think I have been to this same exact place 10-15 times, but something about this spot keeps bringing me back!

From Canggu, by scooter it takes roughly 1 hour and a half if you go in the morning (to beat the traffic) but on the way home it could take 2- 2.5 hours! If you hire a driver however, coming home could take up to 3 hours! Either way this means a super early wake up if you want to catch the best light.

Tegalalang Rice Terraces - a place I visited countless times in 2018, surely became one of the first destinations of my recent return to Bali! Emma had never been here so we made sure to plan according to the weather so she could experience the magic of the light rays with her own eyes.

These rice fields never seize to amaze me, one of a few perfect depictions of Bali for me! Everything about this place from the mood, the drive, the light-rays, the density in the air, the sounds around me, the excitement of perfect light and conditions! I love all of it! I think I have been lucky enough with this magical display of light maybe 4 or 5 times.

Those Light Rays Though! Those Light Rays Though!

Getting up early in Bali, countless times has led to some of the most memorable moments. At Tegalalang specifically when the harvest cycle is nearing its completion, I LOVE shooting here! The yellow grains contrast the light and the greens so beautifully, it has me feeling like I'm in a dream every time i see it! From Ubud you can reach the rice terraces in about 20 minutes (by scooter) and it is definitely one of my favourite places to see the day unfold in Bali!

The northern half of Bali has entirely won my heart! I simply can’t get enough of it! The early departures are basically becoming a common occurrence these days to make it up to spots like these two for sunrise.
