Bali

My journey to the North.

Sekumpul waterfall

Over the past two months, I immersed myself in the landscapes, culture, and adventure that Bali has to offer. It is the land of waterfalls, volcanoes, smiles, and might be one of the most beautiful places on the planet. My girlfriend and I explored many parts of this breathtaking island, but the North was by far the most surreal. Jaw-dropping waterfalls and some of the densest rainforests I have ever seen. This is my North Bali adventure

My Girlfriend and I set off on scooter from t Canggu which is in the south of the islan. We headed to the Ulun Danu Beratan water temple to catch the sunrise. On route, we stumbled across some beautiful rice terraces getting bathed in the morning light, so we decided to get the drone up for a couple of shots. We then got back on the scooter and gassed up it up north to catch the last of moments of sunrise at the temple. We had seen many photos of this temple, but seeing it with my own eyes was a real treat. The calm reflections of the water temple and sound of subtle Hindu chants sent shivers down my spine.

After a beautiful sunrise at the temple, we went to chase a few waterfalls. We headed to the Banyumala waterfall first and got stuck sitting under a hut whilst taking shelter from torrential rain. We luckily managed to get some amazing photos of the rain and the falls. Plans don't always work out, so you have to see the glass half full and make the most out of the situation. Chasing waterfalls is one of the most rewarding things to do as an adventure photographer, but be very tiring and hard on the camera gear. We decided to call it a day and drove further north to our accommodation.

The next morning we went to explore Sekumpul waterfall, which is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls in Bali. This waterfall is also one of my personal favorites. It has a number of cascading falls and is surrounded by thick rainforests. Taking photos at this spot can be real tricky because of the crazy amount of water that explodes off the base. I would suggest taking some sort of waterproof protection for your gear, especially if it’s not weather sealed. The great thing about this waterfall, is that there is another massive one around the corner called Air Terjun Fiji, which is a nice fall to relax at after visiting Sekumpul.

After a massive morning of exploring falls, we made our way back down south to Canggu where we watched a beautiful sunset and ate some great food.
