Morocco - The Sahara

Settling on one desert adventure to go on is difficult. There are hundreds on the web that range from €50 to €500 a night and it all really depends on your taste. For us, we were willing to pay that extra amount so we knew there weren’t going to be any hiccups.

We settled on Erg Chebbi - Desert Camp Morocco and did the 4-day/3-night excursion. Our agenda went a little like this:

Day 1 - Drive for 4-5 hours to Kasbah Azul and stay there for the night.

Entrance to Kasbach Azul Entrance to Kasbach Azul

Day 2 - Drive 4 more hours and arrive at Erg Chebbi to begin the desert activities

Day 3 - Have a full day in the desert

Day 4 - Wake up early and drive back to Marrakech (7-hour drive)

For us, even though long, the drive was worth it. With no wifi and minimal service, you can truly cut off from the outside world and enjoy the moment. For me that meant putting pen to paper and figuring out some next steps without any distraction. If the long drive isn’t for you there are a few camps like Scarabeo Camp about 1-hour outside of Marrakech. Although not rolling dunes, it does allow you to do activities such as camel riding etc.

Overall, Morocco is a place that I recommend anyone and everyone to visit in their lifetime. I can’t wait till I have the opportunity to go back and explore more of the country.
