A Taste of Prague Food

Best Goulash in town

Kožná 488/14, 110 00 Staré Město, Czech Republic

One of the best parts about travelling is all the new flavors you can discover. Being in Prague for a couple of days I tried to eat as much Czech food as possible.

Wandering around The Old Town’s alleys we found a small restaurant. The restaurant “Mlejnice” on Kožná Street, in the vicinity of the Old Town Square, was opened in 1999.

It has stylish and cozy atmosphere, excellent cuisine and a wide selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Beer lovers can enjoy the taste of the legendary Czech lager Pilsner Urquell, non-pasteurized Gambrinus, or dark Velkopopovický Kozel. Apart from that, the restaurant offers a selection of wines from Moravia. Keep in mind that it is a non-smoking restaurant.

The place was full and we had to wait 20 minutes for a table.

Guláš in bread Guláš in bread

Mlejnice is famous for the Goulash or Guláš served in a bowl made of bread. Goulash is a rich, slow-cooked meat-and-vegetable stew with herbs, seasoned primarily with sweet paprika. You cannot visit Prague and not eat at least one Guláš. For me, Mlejnice served the best Guláš I had in Prague.

Duck with cholent Duck with cholent

Also, we had the duck breast with cholent. A uniquely different taste of duck for me, that I enjoyed a lot. The duck was well cooked and served with a delicious orange sauce.

Potato Gnocchi Potato Gnocchi

Finally, we had ordered potato gnocchi with cabbage, onions and English bacon. As a lover of wine, I had a Lambrusco (sparkling red wine) and my husband a Pilsner Urquell beer.

I totally recommend this restaurant if you visit Prague. In my opinion it serves the best Goulash in town.
