Murcia, Spain

Spain’s Hidden Gem

When you hear about Spain, you often hear about Madrid, Barcelona and Seville. While those cities have their charm, you absolutely must visit the city of Murcia as well. This hidden gem of a city is located in the Southeast corner of the country. It’s only a half an hour drive to the beach, making it the perfect summer destination.

I luckily have a friend who lives in Murcia, so I got to experience the city from a local’s perspective. We spent time walking around the city center. She took me to a restaurant called Socolá for brunch. Some points of interest were the Murcia Cathedral, Mercado de Correos for a bite to eat and the walking path next to the river. Murcia is the perfect city to take a stroll in.

On my last full day of the visit, we took a day trip out to the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora Virgin de la Fuensanta. It’s a short bus ride outside of the city. There is a bit of a hike up, but it’s totally worth it. The views from the top are absolutely amazing. Just like any space in Spain, there’s a restaurant on site in case you need a drink or a small bite to eat.

I was truly surprised by my visit to Murcia. There is a lot more to the city than I thought!
