One of the world's most famous road trips

Every year, millions of visitors take on Australia’s most iconic road trip: the Great Ocean Road. The star of this series of limestone sights along the roaring South Pacific Ocean edge is without a doubt the Twelve Apostles. You may have seen them photographed over and over but nothing beats getting up close to these huge limestone stacks in person.
This one is well worth an early alarm, with sunrise offering a photographers dream. It’s a quieter time to visit and the pink and red skies make the most stunning backdrop. There’s a clear vantage point to witness this spectacle from and it’s easily reachable within a five minute walk of the carpark across the road. Visiting is well-regulated and paths are well-maintained and clearly sign-posted.
I’ll let you in on a secret; really there are only eight of these stacks remaining but you probably won’t even notice! Once you’ve finished marvelling, follow signs (by vehicle) to Gibson’s Steps and head down to the beach that you’ve just been looking down upon for a different vantage point.
