Canoeing in Dubrovnik

The most adventurous experience you'll have here

Possibly one of the best things to do whilst in Dubrovnik, hiring a canoe is a magical experience. We travelled by bus to the old town where we came across multiple companies offering us canoe hire. Our advice is to speak to all the companies before making your decision as the first company that approached us was more expensive than the rest. It’s also worth noting that the companies will always try to sell you canoe tours, meaning that you’ll have an instructor and have to follow a set path with a bunch of other people. Tell them you just want to hire the canoe on your own. We ended up paying 300 Kuna (around £40) to hire the 2 seater canoe for 3 hours (yes, once again, Dubrovnik has become way overpriced), however they were very lenient on the time we returned, we ended up staying out on the water for about 4.5 hours (whoops). Once you have that sorted, it’s a short 20 minute battle across the Adriatic Sea to Lokrum Island, where the water is as clear as glass and full of life, and you can roll out of your canoe and and SEA what the ocean has to offer… Don’t forget your goggles!

We then paddled further along side the island where you have the choice to get out and explore the grounds of Lokrum, however it will cost you 50 Kuna for the day. We recommend paddling a loop around the island, where you’ll find secluded caves and swimming spots all to yourself. Sounds good right? Pack a lunch and some drinks and spend the afternoon basking in the sun and jumping off cliffs into the amazing waters below.
