Chief Mau Hostel Moalboal

Moalboal's Chillest Hostel

If you’re travelling to the Philippines, I urge you to spend a few days relaxing and exploring Panagsama beach in Moalboal, Cebu Island to swim with turtles, see the sardine runs, cool off in waterfalls and eat at an abundance of cute cafe’s and bars right on the water.

The beach in the image below is around 5 minutes walk from Chief Mau, and is where you can snorkel and see turtles at high tide, usually before midday.

As a budget backpacker, I would definitely recommend Chief Mau Hostel as one of the best in the area. I say this because it is right in the heart of where everything happens, the rooms are new and clean and private, and the value for money is great considering the Philippines is not the cheapest of places in Southeast Asia.

They have a delicious meals at the adorable cafe downstairs, where you can lounge on the hammocks with a coffee or fruit shake. I highly recommend the potato wedges - delish.

They also offer a variety of tours, such as the canyoneering tour to the Kawasan Falls, and day trips to Oslob to swim with whale sharks.

On our first night we stayed in a private fan room for PHP900 for the both of us (around $25 AUD) and the following night we stayed in an air-conditioned dorm room for PHP500 each. You will always pay more for aircon but it's not necessary as you'll get a fan anyway!

Just a good, clean, and gorgeous hostel I would definitely stay at again. Read my other stories in the guide to The Philippines for more things to do and places to stay in the beautiful country of a thousand islands.
