Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery

Hong Kong

Did you know that this monastery has 10,000 Buddha statues? Yes, I couldn’t believe it either.

The Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is a must-see in Hong Kong, especially if you are curious about Buddhism. No monks are residing in the monastery. However, it is a unique place to visit. It is was also not overwhelming with tourists.

While walking up the hill to the monastery, there are golden Buddha statues on each side of the path. Each figure is unique and has its own individuality, emotion, and dress. Along the trail, there are benches, stairs, and a ramp to walk up. If you or someone who you are with has difficulty walking, there are places to rest.

I underestimated the time it took to get there from the MTR and walk up the hill. It does not look far on the map from public transportation, but it took longer than I thought. This temple is in the middle of a forest, so I did see monkeys. They did not approach anyone or come down on the path up the hill. They were hanging out on the branches and looking for food.

There is a monastery at the top of the stairs. Inside there are mini Buddha statues with lights along the walls. It was mesmerizing to look at. I wish I could have taken a picture to describe it, but cameras are prohibited inside. There is one pagoda in the center and a view of the outskirts of the city.

There is a gift shop that sells meditation beads, Buddha figurines, incense, and much more. I purchased a mini Buddha for my best friend’s father as a souvenir.

I think visiting the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is a great way to get away from the hustle and chaos in the heart of Hong Kong. It is worth seeing!
