Füssen, Germany
Off The Beaten Path Gems In Bavaria
I’ve always loved the fairytale-like mood of tiny German villages. In late 2016 I stopped here during a road trip that spanned from Dolomites to Bavaria, and I simply couldn’t help but fall in love with this place and all its alleys filled with Christmas lights. Mainly known for its close vicinity to the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau (the first one was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle!), Füssen has not been hit by mass tourism that much, so it’s fairly easy to walk around town most days without stumbling into crowds of tourists.
The town at 7am, all for ourselves
Spending a night there I decided to take a tour of the historic centre both late at night and at morning’s first light. Almost no one was around, and particularly by night I loved the atmosphere, observing life through the windows of all the tiny and cosy picturesque restaurants. At dawn I was drawn to the pastel facades, as everything looked kinda unreal and magical at the same time.
I’d love to spend a night there
The only place open early in the morning: a bakery!
