Six Senses Douro & Quinta da Gricha

Portugal is a country full of beautiful cities worth seeing, but a must when visiting would be the Douro Valley. The landscapes are some of the most magical I have seen, and then there is of course the delicious cuisine and wines.

When in the Douro Valley I stayed at 2 different hotels. Near Regua I stayed at the best hotel in Portugal in my opinion, Six Senses Douro Valley. My stay here was from beginning till the end a dream. This luxury hotel, makes you not want to ever leave.

The perfect way to spend the day here in my opinion is to check into your room, which by the way has the most comfortable bed I have ever experienced, then discover all the beautiful areas of the hotel. Head towards its extensive wine bar for a Douro and Port wine tasting, have a swim at one of their pools, freshen up in your room and have an incredible Portuguese cuisine dinner at the hotel’s restaurant Vale de Abraao!

The next morning, head to the fantastic buffet breakfast to start the day in the best way possible. Before check-out go to the spa for one of their signature massages. Cant think of a day better spent.

Near Pinhao, high up in the Douro Valley mountains there is the Hotel Quinta da Gricha. This small luxury hotel only has 4 rooms and is located in the middle of vineyards used to make the Quinta da Gricha and Churchill wines. Since there are only 4 rooms it really feels like you have the place to yourself. The views are truly magnificent, especially from the terrace and the infinity pool. If you are looking for a stay to relax and be in complete peace, then this is your best choice in the Douro Valley!
