Spanish Capital, Madrid!

Being so close to Portugal, Spain is in easy reach to visit often. The capital of Madrid is a city worth visiting, and I enjoyed every minute of my weekend wandering through the charming neighborhoods. Although in my opinion, Madrid has less spectacular sights to visit then, for example, Barcelona, the city is charming with plenty of things to do still.

Enjoy a walk starting at the Palacio Real de Madrid, which is the official residence of the Spanish royal family, and a vast and grand looking palace. Continue walking through some charming streets and alleyways towards Plaza Mayor. Either at Plaza Mayor or your next stop, the Puerta del Sol square will be an excellent time to enjoy a delicious lunch.

Plaza Mayor Plaza Mayor

Afterward walk towards the famous Gran Via, where you can find many shops and cafes. All the above can quickly be done in a short period, walking at a leisurely pace.

In the afternoon, take an Uber or taxi to Retiro Park. I always enjoy walking through a beautiful park in a new city, especially when this one has a gorgeous place to visit like the Palacio de Cristal. It’s free to enter, and it’s worth a stop for its magnificent architecture.

Palacio de Crystal! Palacio de Crystal!

Easy walking distance from Retiro park, is the Prado Museum, the most famous museum in the city. If you are a museum kind of person, then this is your place to be. Close by and the second most important museum of the city is the Reina Sofia.

Madrid is known as the tapas capital of the country, so it comes with no surprise that the food in this city is fantastic! It’s my favorite thing about Madrid. Not easy to decide what restaurant to visit as there are over 10.000 restaurants listed here on TripAdvisor. The best thing to do is to ask your hotel concierge for recommendations as they will give great choices within walking distance from you.

Endless amazing food! Endless amazing food!
