Tianmen Mountain in a Day: A Hidden Gem of Zhangjiajie
If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure, Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, China, should definitely be on your radar. While the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park gets all the attention, Tianmen Mountain remains one of the lesser-known treasures in this beautiful region. Surprisingly, it’s even closer to Zhangjiajie city than the National Park, making it a perfect day trip destination.
After a restful night in Zhangjiajie city, I highly recommend waking up early to get a head start on your journey. The cable car ride to the top of Tianmen Mountain is an experience in itself and gets extremely crowded as the day goes on. Trust me, the earlier you arrive, the better!
The Cable Car Journey The ticket for the cable car costs around 230 CNY, and it’s well worth the price. As you climb higher, the views become more breathtaking. Sit by the window if you can to capture the winding 99 Bend Road, a mountain road that curves like a snake up the mountain. The sight is simply mesmerizing, especially when a bus drives up at the same time, adding to the drama of the landscape. The cable car ride is the longest in the world, and the views of Baofeng Lake and the surrounding mountains are nothing short of spectacular.
Reaching the Summit Once at the top, the sheer steepness of the mountain becomes apparent. Hiking trails are carved into the side of the cliff, with paths that seem to float above the abyss. For those with a brave heart, there’s a glass walkway built into the side of the mountain. It’s the perfect spot to test your courage and get a panoramic view of the limestone peaks.
One of the main highlights is Tianmen Cave—an enormous hole in the mountain, which is accessible by climbing 999 stairs. We were lucky that the stairs were closed for renovation during our visit, so we could photograph them without crowds in the background. If you’re aiming for the perfect photo, come in the late afternoon when the crowds are fewer, and the lighting is softer. Don’t forget to bring a wide-angle lens to capture the vastness of the stairs and the cave in one shot.
A Perfect Travel Website Design Idea Experiencing Tianmen Mountain made me think about how some of the most breathtaking destinations are often hidden from the eyes of the masses. Just like the beauty of Tianmen Mountain, a well-crafted travel website design can bring those hidden gems to life. A stunning website can captivate the imagination of travelers, much like how the view from Tianmen Mountain captures the soul. The seamless flow of a website, the stunning images, and the ease of navigation can take your audience on a virtual adventure, just like the one I experienced.
The Journey Down Once you’ve soaked in the beauty of Tianmen Cave and the surrounding peaks, take the minibus back down 99 Bend Road, which offers a final thrilling ride. After all that exploration, grab yourself a well-deserved meal and a cold beer in Zhangjiajie city and reminisce about the day’s adventure.
