Every Single Night at Edi House

More than 11 years later, it’s still a favorite.

I studied abroad in Florence, Italy, in the summer of 2004. We lived in an apartment well out of the city center. Near us, in Piazza Fra' Girolamo Savonarola, was the unassuming Edi House. We went on a whim...and proceeded to return every Friday night for our entire trip.

A few years later, my brother visited Florence for a few days. He and his friends ate at Edi House every night they were there.

Fast-forward to 2015, when my husband and I lived in France, and my parents came to visit. A trip to Florence was on the agenda. We ate at Edi House every single night.

A month after that, my husband and I embarked on a 17-day, four-country vacation. We came to Florence. We ate at Edi House every. single. night.

I don't know what to say aside from that. Everyone I've ever taken there has fallen in love with it. The restaurant has a cozy interior, as well as a covered sidewalk section, allowing you to take advantage of warm Tuscan evenings. The food is reasonably priced, but unbelievably delicious. While you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, my favorite dish, my ride-or-die, is the truffle gnocchi.

Their wine is also a huge selling point. For nine euros, you can get a liter of house red wine or slightly sparkling white wine. They also sell bottles of wine as well, should you prefer that.

Service here is wonderful. Visiting with my parents, we chatted every night with Chiara and her father, the owner, every night. On our last night, they gave us a bottle of wine wrapped in a menu as a souvenir. When I came back a month later, Chiara recognized me and greeted us as though we were long-lost relatives. It's truly a family restaurant, and that comes through in the cuisine as well as service.
